Griffiths is currently the bowling coach of Victoria but has been the head coach of Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes. Before taking up the head coaching role at Tasmania, he was senior assistant coach for WA and the Perth Scorchers under Justin Langer. He has also been a long-time bowling coach at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and has worked with the San Francisco Unicorns in the MLC. He has had short stints with the Australia men’s team on bilateral tours in the 2012, 2016 and 2019 ODI World Cups.
Griffith’s appointment comes at a time when Australia’s fast bowling depth is coming into sharp focus as Australia’s big three are Pat Cummins (31), Mitchell Starc (about to turn 35) and Josh Hazlewood (34). is unlikely to continue playing in all three formats. Short to medium term.
Griffiths will be based at CA’s Center of Excellence in Brisbane and implement a national strategy to develop fast bowlers. Griffiths will complete the domestic season with Victoria in his current role as bowling coach under Chris Rogers, with Victoria currently sitting second in both the Sheffield Shield and Dean Jones Trophy, before moving to Brisbane to take up his new position.
